Respiratiqn late and ripening of avocado fruits under storage at 25°, 28 ± 1°, 31°, and 33°C were investigated. Respiration, rate increased obviously after stored for seven days. The longest ripening period was six days i.e. from 6th to 11th days under 31°C storage.The best ripening fruit performance was obtained from storage at 31°C and 28±1°C for 7 days

Changes of respiration rate and chemical constituents of avocado fruits as affected by various maturity (18 - 24 weeks from blooming) were observed during incuUbation peiiod at 28 ±1 C.Results of these experiments were intended to know the best time for harvesting based on their cell vitality and chemical constituents. Those indicated that 20 weeks from blooming was the best time for obtaining higher oil content (12.48%) and carotenoid content (968.6l.U.) of ripening fruits. The relationship between respiration rate and changes of oil content and carotenoid content were discussed

    H. SUTARNO, H. ROEMANTYO & E.K. SUPARDIJONO. 1985. Plants with lowly statures in the kitchen gardens in Teluknaga, Citeureup and Pacet. Berita Biologi 3 (2): 49 - 54. Studies on kitchen garden crops of the lower stratum (3m) including climbing plants were carried out in Teluknaga (0-10m), Citeureup (200-500m) and Pacet (600-1400). These studies were aimed at obtaining information on species variation, cultivation and utilization. The species number in those three subdistricts were 14, 36 and 37 species, respectively. Among the most commonly observed crops were Chilipepper, pineapple, sugarcane, coco-yam, cassava and taro. The relatively good soil and climatic conditions as well as reasonably large habitants being farmers, the home-gardens in Ci-1 teureup and Pacet enabled the owners to fully utilize their home-gardens for agriculture

Studies on nVorphogeneses and physiological maturity of jampu bangkok fruits were carried out from grown i plants in Bogor. Fruits developed from oval to round and nerly egg shape with fruit diameter at about 100 - 110 mm for 18 - 25 weeks. Moisture content and softness of fruits increased slowly at the early time of ripening, but respiration rate increased obviously during period of shape development and ripening. Optimal yield was obtained, when harvesting at the last time of fruit enlargment, i.e. 18 weeks from blooming

Tolerance of salak seeds on moisture content, temperature and fungal attack.Berita Biologi 3(8): 390 -395.Salak (Salacca edulis var.amboinensis) seeds are difficult to withstand in long term storage.For keeping its viability in storage their tolerance on moisture content,temperatur and fungal attack were studied.Decreasing moistur content influenced salak seed viability. Salak seeds would not afford to sprout.If moisture content reached 24.9%.By moisture content of 47.5%,seed viability dropped to 50.00%.Treatment of storage at temperatures of 10°C, 15 C and 20 C decreased moisture content sjid fungal attack less than at 25°C' and control. Dipping Dithane M45 treatment decreased fungal attack obviously, but it also reduced seed viability
